Types of essbase applications

There are two types of essbase applications.

1. ASO (aggregate storage option)
2. BSO (block storage option)

ASO:

The database storage model designed to support large scale, sparsely distributed data which is categorised into many, potentially large dimensions. Upper level members and formulas are dynamically calculated, and selected data values are aggregated and stored, typically in improvements in overall aggregation time.
BSO:

The essbase database storage model categorising and storing data based on the sparsity of data values are defined in sparse dimensions. data values are stored in blocks, which exist only for sparse dimension members for which there are values.
